Fares on Arriva buses are generally separated into Standard, Discounted, Discounted Child, Student Discounted, Kartanzjan Card-Holder and Night categories. Different tickets are used in Malta and Gozo, and unless otherwise stated tickets purchased in Malta cannot be used in Gozo and vice-versa.
Standard Tickets (Malta and Gozo)
Standard Tickets offer a range of good value travel options for those who do not hold an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit, all issued by the Government of Malta.
Discounted tickets
If you hold an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit, all issued by the Government of Malta you can access discounted travel throughout Malta and Gozo.
To take advantage of the fares listed below you must carry your official an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit, all issued by the Government of Malta when purchasing these tickets and at all times when travelling.
Student Discount
If you are a student aged 11 to 16 years old (inclusive), you are entitled to apply for an Arriva Student Saver Card. You can also apply for a Student Saver Card if you can provide evidence that you are enrolled in a full time course lasting at least three months with an educational institution registered with the Ministry responsible for education in Malta.
You will need to apply for a Student Saver Card to take advantage of the fares above.
Kartanzjan Card Holder
Arriva Kartanzjan tickets offer holders an extremely cheap and convenient method of travelling all over the island, without stress or hassle!
Night tickets
Night bus services are separate from Day-time Bus Services and cost €2.50 for a single journey. You can purchase Night Bus tickets from ticket vending machines or from the driver as you board the bus. It helps the driver if you are able to offer the right change for your fare.
Terms & Conditions
- Tickets purchased in Malta are not valid in Gozo (and vice-versa) unless otherwise stated.
- Only holders of an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit – all issued by the Government of Malta – who can provide proof of address showing that they reside in Gozo, can purchase 7-Day, 30-Day and/or 90-Day discount tickets and use them in both Malta and Gozo.
- Only holders of an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit – all issued by the Government of Malta – along with proof of address that they reside in Gozo can purchase the 30 Day (€10) Gozo ticket. This ticket is only valid for tavel in Gozo.
- The Kartanzjan Discount Ticket can only be purchased on presentation of the official Kartanzjan Card, issued by the Government of Malta.
- The Student Saver Card can be used in Malta only - unless the student can produce the relevant Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit, all issued by the Government of Malta, along with proof of a residential address in Gozo in which case they can also use their Saver Card for travel in Gozo.
- If you cannot produce the required documents and/or a valid ticket while travelling you may be liable to a penalty fare of €10.00.
- Any issues with faulty / Broken / lost savercards are solved directly at the Valletta bus terminus ticket booth everyday between 07:30 and 19:00.
- Credit notes can be redeemed at any Arriva Malta ticket booth situated in Valletta, Bugibba, Sliema and Malta international airport.
